I have a comp running xp pro in the office with a lexmark all in one hooked thru a usb.The comp is hooked up to a linksys wireless router.I then got a new acer laptop with windows basic home to use in the shop.Using the wireless connection or a direct network cable I could not get it to print to the lexmark.I did alot of research, did all the permission settings, driver installs in the proper sequence nothing worked. On vista it shows and recognises the printer as available when I have it on and not available when I turn it off but when I want it to print nothing happens.Everything else works;file sharing internet access etc.Microsoft says it is lexmark and lexmark says it is microsoft causing the problem.
I feel the problem is with vista.According to both microsoft and lexmark all the computers on the network have to be running the same operating system all vista or all xp.I was told that a printer server($180.00 and up plus) would fix the problem as then the printer is connected to the server with no computer in the way and then the computers connect to it directly (wireless or network cable). This was far too complicated for me to set up in my small office(and costly) so I bought a canon ip3000 on sale for $69.00 and it works great.
I don't know if this is the same as your problem as my issue is with lexmark and not hp.
Regards,
Chris
