Mike, you wrote:
"GM guys hanging around Saab until something better opens up makes sense."
Yeah, it makes sense for the GM guys. The thing that I would like to see, is fewer "GM guys". I'd like to see sharp guys, car guys, motivated guys, perhaps even (gasp) outside guys.
I don't know Steve Shannon, and I'm not questioning his business sense or anything of the sort. I hope he does well for Saab. And I hope Saab does well for him. The shuffling of management just doesn't scream "We're making serious moves to change the way things are done around here!" to me.
Do you want people working for you who only have eyes for something bigger, or do you want them working for you because they believe in what you are involved with?
You have two guys; one is a total beemerphile (that's a double "e" and a single "m"). The other thinks getting experience at your dealership might land him a spot somewhere (anywhere) else... Both are well-qualified. Who do want to hire?
As for Steve Shannon. Is Saab simply a stepping stone, just another job? If so, how does that serve Saab?
Granted, people have to start somewhere. Additionally, until Saab is given the respect and autonomy from GM which is necessary to distinguish it as a premium European brand, management positions within Saab will remain second-tier.
Economies of scale, platform sharing, etc...: Good.
Corporate culture, nepotism, loss of focus, etc...: Bad.
Maybe you have to take one with the other.
I feel like I got a bit off topic. How are the bikes these days, Mike? I'm still looking into the K75S(A).
