OT: Errant (possibly) kitchen contractor Posted by ChuckD [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Mike's post below prompts me to pose this.
We recently had a kitchen remodel done in preparation to sell our house. One wall that got new cabinets separates the kitchen from the master bath and, as was made abundantly clear, contains the plumbing. In fact we placed the fridge on this wall and while the two cabinet guys were working, I was accessing some of the pipes inside to connect the ice maker to it. They well knew what was up with that wall (but I never got to the point of piercing the pipe for the hook-up).
Fast forward a week and both my wife and I notice a strong musty smell in the kitchen after morning showers. Suspecting the worst, I pulled out the fridge and ran the water in the shower/tub and sure enough, water comes pouring down through the wall. Leaving the water running and shutting off just the shower and the mini-flood stops.
Since this past Friday I've now left three congenial messages (hey, stuff happens) indicating we are now without our shower and need someone to come by and assess the situation. Last two were today, one to the 'office' number, and one to the boss. Still no answer.
I guess it's too soon to start thinking law suits (and not sure I have the stomach for it anyway), but can someone advise what my next couple steps should be?
Two other points: We have an accessory apartment with a very accommodating tenant who's letting us use his shower, and 'The Boss' lives about a hundred yards up the road.
Thanks.
C.
