In Western Washington state, there are 5 refineries. A small independent one (US) and 4 large refineries (Tesoro, Shell, BP/Arco, and Conoco Phillips).

ConocoPhillips sells under the 76 brand.

Chevron has a large presence but no refinery. I was also curious where the gas came from. My guess was Tesoro. I finally found it but, darn, I clicked off the source before copying it. Anyway, here's the hand copied info I got. Unfortunately, it's from 2000, 7 years ago and could be out of date.

In 2000, Shell and Arco had a 30,000 barrel/day agreement. Shell supplies that amount to Arco stations in Northern California, Arco supplies 30,000 bbl/day to Shell in Southern California.

Also Shell supplies Exxon in Western Washington in exchange for Exxon supplying Shell in Spokane. Amounts were not listed.

Shell and Chevron had a 20,000 bbl/day agreement where Shell supplied 20,000 bbl/day to Chevron at Anacortes (Western Washington) in exchange for Chevron supplying Shell 12,000 bbl/day in Northern California and 8,000 bbl/day in Southern California as well as getting paid the difference between the cost of conventional gas (Anacortes sourced) and CARB gas (California).

So maybe Western Washington Chevron gas comes from Shell....or it could come from Tesoro, which bought the Shell refinery when Shell took over the old Texaco refinery (both at Anacortes).

Each brand reportedly adds its own additives in the gas but I was still curious as to the source.
