Something is best left unknown. I would not have learned some of the advances in the medical technology had I not got injured while working on my 95 9k cse this past Saturday morning. It was not serious yet serious enough for me I had to go to the emergency room to get 6 stitches on my right hand. My wife was out shopping I drove the cse to the emergency room myself. It's the only time I wished I had automatic transmission.
The emergency room staff who patched me up told me to keep my hand dry and change the bandage once a day. No medication was prescribed other than the tetanus shot in the hospital. I followed the advice by slipping on an x-large rubber glove and held my right hand up while showering the last two days.
This morning I went to see a friend of mine who is a medical doctor for some advice. I am traveling tomorrow out of the country for three weeks. I will have to either remove the sutures myself in a week or see a doctor where I will be visiting. He gave me some transparent dressing to put on the stitches in addition to a suture removal kit and taught me how to do it myself. This gossamer like adhesive tape is so wonderful I am utterly amazed. We know for a wound to heal it needs to keep the bacteria away. The best way is to keep it dry because moisture carries bacteria. But you can't tape the skin over either because the skin needs to breathe. If you don't allow the skin to breathe the wound will fester.
He put on this thin adhesive patch which sticke to the skin, is easy to remove, aloows the skin to breathe, and yet repels water I can shower without wetting the wound. Under the adhesive tape he just cut a piece of non-stick sponge on the stitches. Anyone know how this tape works?
