I am a Plumbing Service Manager, and if you want a fail safe water heater, go with the Rinnai R53i or R83i. If you are handy, you can do it yourself. If you want a plumber to do it, should go around $2,300 installed. Depends on the demand, also look at gas pipe sizing. Put in a floor sensor for water that will shut off the water supply line if it senses a leak. You will have to install a solenoid valve and some controls to do this. Look at your water softener, if you do not have one, purchase it with the water heater and keep the salt full for the brine tank. If you have one - make sure it is operable. Feel free to post questions - glad to help.
