Hi, I was adviced to post my question here from another Saab group.
So first of all, a hello to all memebers.
My company offered me a new position at our San Diego, CA office.
Really excited and interested in this move. But there's a whole bunch of logistics issue to work out.
One of the first will be getting a car, SD is a very distributed city and crap to none public transport, so I need to get a car asap.
I've not got much idea how car buying works in the US of A, Can any of you residents enlighten me? I will likely have a bunch of questions I wanna ask.
Since I will have no credit history in the US, I have to buy the car use my savings. I think this might complicate things a little.
- Can I get a lease with no credit history?
- Is there a published price guide for used cars? Like our UK's Parker Guide?
- If there is one does it give guide line on depreciation from age?
I would love to own a Saab again in the US, but since my post is not permanent, I need to sell the car on after a year or two, so getting as much money back as possible is a priority. I don't know how bad Saab is hit by depreciation.
- Does this rules out nearly new cars (1/2 ~ 1 year old)?
- Are Saabs really bad for depreciation?
- Does convertibles hold their value better?
My current car is a 9-5, so is my previous one, if possible I'd like to switch to a 9-3SS, but is the build quality really THAT bad? Ideally I'd like a V6 SC, or a convertible, but if these loose value too quickly or proves to be too expensive then I'd have to go for a slightly older (post 02) 9-5.
- Are manual cars more difficult to find and sell off?
I would be reluctant to move to a different marque, but in the end of the day wallet speaks
- Can any one recommend cars that generally keep their resale value well?
When it comes to buying, How hard a bargain should I drive?
- How much should I expect off the list price for used cars?
- Any scams/ hoax I should look out for?
- Any trust worthy dealers in SD/OC area? Any one to avoid?
- Any indep Saab specialist for services?
Thanks a bunch in advance!
