I drive few miles. I am in the market for new summer tires soon. The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, which came out in 2004, is a candidate. The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric just came out.

Some of the sales literature suggests there are 3 Eagle F1's. The all season version, the GS-D3 (which is said to be good against hydroplaning), and the Asymmetric (which is said to be good in dry weather and have less noise). The Assymmetric is also claimed to be better in wet, somewhat conflicting with the earlier claim. Maybe it's better in the wet test course but hydroplanes earlier in the straight road??

I am inclined to get the F1 GS-D3. However, I anticipate it to last 5-6 years. If I get need one new tire in 3-4 years, will they even be sold? By then, the design will have been out for 7-8 years.

If availability in 4 years is a problem, I might buy the Eagle F1 Asymmetric.

How about other tires that you have had? How often are tires discontinued?

----
The Pirelli P6 was sold around 1982 but by 1993, they were still around. The Pirelli P8 was sold around 1982 and may have been discontinued around 2000. The Pirelli P2000 was sold around 2000. Is it not sold, I think? The Yokohama AVS-Intermediate was around in 1997, maybe even 1995. It is not still sold as far as I know. The Dunlop D60M2 (?) was sold in 1999, but is not sold now.

Therefore,
P6: 11 years?; P8: 8 years?; P2000: less than 7 years; AVS-I: at most 10 years; Dunlop: 5+ years??
