Saab has revised its tune a little bit as I caught them lying about what my dealer told them. Tech Services still claims it is normal, but at least the dealer is on my side for now.

If you don't load it, tire wear and rear shocks will be the worst of it. I only load occasionally and have had a blowout and other tires destroyed and I am on my second rear subframe, and third set of springs, shocks, and bushings. I can't use the car the way the placard and manual claim. Even with brand new parts, the car sags when loaded and my service writer is right to say it just isn't normal for the tires to nearly rub under load. I have also managed to mess up a couple sets of rear fender well trim from tires rubbing against it.

I've scoured the web on this issue. There are owners in several countries and with just about every incarnation of the 9-5 so it seems to be a problem with all years and variants. The extent of the problem is only a factor of how one uses the car. The majority of users are just drivers in an unloaded car. The minority actually load the car, even occasionally. These have worse symptoms. A very few use the car loaded for extended runs. Those have catastrophic failure. There are at least a few on Saabnet that confirm this.
