I guess you must be one of many in NJ with banks taken over by BofA. Is there a minimum balance and do they give you interest albeit abysmal. Does the interest enough to cover your $6.95 monthly charge ?

Give Wachovia a try, their online banking is free, as least for me as I was with New Brunswick Savings Bank so many years ago which was bought out by Core State, then by First Union, and First Union became Wachovia after FU bought Wachovia.

I don't know what kind of deal Wachovia has for new customers, give them a try. They've many ATMs around the area, take a look at their website and see if there are a couple near you. I was told once that I have grandfather clauses from way back when and I used to get minimum balance of $50 with interest in my checking account but I think they *UPGRADED* to *NO* interest with a some minimum balance. I do write checks and various online transactions as well. However, with the zero interest account, I essentially pay around what you pay BofA to keep the account.

Also watch for HSBC, Chase, and Citi. They don't have that many ATMs available around the state however.
