Recently, I've done extensive reading of the scientific literature on the health risks of BPA. I'm talking about reading the publications with the actual scientific data, not mass media hysterics. BPA is one of the most studied chemicals in history, with the findings from literally thousands of scientific experiments published. A good overview of the science is contained in this draft report from the National Toxicological Program of the U.S. National Institute of Health, i.e. NIH, at http://cerhr.niehs.nih.gov/chemicals/bisphenol/BPADraftBriefVF_04_14_08.pdf.

One of the main things I gleaned from the published data is that there is a huge difference in experimental findings of health issues of BPA depending on whether BPA is administered orally (in food or drink) vs. subcutaneously (injected). In general, orally consumed BPA is excreted through urine within hours of consumption. The studies which examine oral BPA in doses close to what average humans might encounter (as opposed to people who work in the chemical plants and might get much higher doses), are typically either inconclusive or find extremely low to non-existence health risk. Virtually every study which found significant health risks for BPA had injected the chemical, usually into lab mice or rats, and often in doses much higher (hundreds of times higher) than would ever occur in humans through normal food and beverage consumption. This distinction between oral and injected BPA is completely missed by every mass media account I have read on this issue.

I'm not claiming anything one way or the other about the safety of BPA. I'm merely trying to encourage others to look at the actual scientific findings, rather than rely on mass media reports.
