It's a tentative yes. Raid-1 is mirroring and hence if one drive goes away there isn't a "rebuild" as there would be with Raid levels, 3,4,5,6, 53,34, or 10. those has double digit raid levels are combination of the single digit raids. All of the data exists on each of the mirror drives, this is not the case with the more prevalent Raid-5, so a surviving drive of a Raid-1 pair should be instantly readable, and usually is.
That being said, IF and only if, your bad drive starts corrupting data, and that data gets replicated to the good drive, you *could* have corrupted data on the mirror drive. You would not have to rebuild anything but could have corrupt data. I have a Raid zero or Raid one option on the mother board on my computer and use it. have had two drives croak and the controller and it's communication SW tells me so, replaced the drive and it did a rebuild on the fly, but all along I was using the drive. It's my C: drive (boot drive). The occurence of corrupting that data is small, but it does exist and if you have anything that would be really painful to loose, back it up to another place too.
