That's a K3, not the same as an L2

They share some similarities and parts but the body is almost entirely different.

The K3 Magnette is one of the most desirable (and valuable) old MGs around. There are maybe a dozen of them left, as I understand it. The supercharger is mounted outside the car--you can sort of see it in front of the radiator in the picture. I think they also have the preselective gearbox like in my friend's L2. Finding or restoring a K3 is my buddy's dream. He knows of one that he may be able to get (is in pieces), but the guy isn't ready to let it go yet.

Fun story: the Rootes supercharger on his L2 was previously fitted to a K3, but was incorrect for the car, as it was mounted in the engine compartment, not externally. But it *was* correct for his L2. The guy who owned it wouldn't sell it, so my friend found the correct one for the K3 in Australia, bought it, and swapped it for the Rootes version that was correct for his L2. There are only a handful of the correct ones for the L2 on the whole planet, as the supercharged models are incredibly rare.

What I think is cool about all this is that my buddy has this valuable old car that he actually drives. And he just doesn't put around. We were running fairly hard and he was shifting at 5K to 6K rpm. So many old or classic cars are garage queens and never get out, or are just cruised in. For old domestic stuff ('55 Chevys, muscle cars, etc.) I don't think it matters because those are just nice old cars. But cars like the L2 and the '53 Ferrari Barchetta (with racing lineage) another guy here in town has get driven, which is what these old cars were all about.
