I posted a few weeks ago about going on a trip with 3 other people, a large kayak and a lot of gear, questioning whether a hitch mounted cargo carrier or trailer would be the best option for creating the extra cargo capacity I would need. There was a strong consensus in favor of the trailer, so I found one on C'list, which was just a 3'x4' Harbor Freight, or similar, product, but in nearly new condition. My wife found a Sears X-Cargo rooftop carrier at a garage sale for $50, and voila!
I barely noticed the trailer there. Despite the 55mph warnings on the wheels I regularly drove at 75 with no problems (the trailer was rated for 860 pounds and I was carrying less than 200, so I figured I had some slack in there). I kept an eye on the bearings and tire pressures and had no issues. Didn't even seem to hurt my gas mileage.
So once again, Saabnet comes through!
