Whatever happened to presenting needed information in a clear way that doesn't have a clutter of lights, color and distraction? These dashboards are all a joke, IMHO, although MB and Honda are almost tolerable. The Audi one looks like it belongs in some '70s Buick.
I saw the Saab dash at SOC, and sure, it's "cool-looking" but does it do a better job than basic analog gauges that are backlit or use some type of electroluminesence?
What do you really need for instrumentation? Speed, revs, coolant temp, and fuel for starters. Then maybe boost, oil pressure/temp, volts. Most people don't know what the tach is, ignore the temp gauge and look only at speed and fuel. For a lot of people, less is more. I think back to the old VW Bugs: just a speedo and gas gauge, and they didn't have the fuel gauge until the late '60s. Other cars added a only a coolant temp gauge, and relatively few cars had much more than that until about 20 years ago when tachs suddenly appeared on every dashboard.
