DI/APC actually dates back to 1988 - we didn't get it in the US until 1990. Trionic arrived with the "CS" body style 9000s in 1993 (1992 elsewhere). But Trionic and everything that goes with it is uniquely Saab, right down to the ingenious knock control, boost control, and "torque management" system. Really a neat bit of kit, and possibly the only engine management system out there right now developed exclusively for boosted motors. Really good stuff, for sure, but in a world of collapsing auto makers, Trionic is not the thing that will put Saabs in driveways, and probably a reasonable thing to jettison.
