I mounted up a set of yokohama guardex that are 11 years old, had last ran them 5 yrs ago.
If stored properly good tires can last a good while. I inspected them and the tires are in great shape, made some 80 mph + runs on them and only saw several chunks of tread behind me.
My 1st job out of college was testing and developing compounds for a major tire mfg. Good rubber stored properly will last a good long while.
Stored properly is not outdoors. The tire companies in my opinion are doing a cya by making a blanket 6 yr life span statement, but who can blame then. Next maybe GM will say that any car more than 6 yrs old should be replaced - but maybe in the case of their stuff it's a true statement, lol.
