Saab has not strayed too far from its roots. I remember the 99EMS as a car that was a sports sedan and sensible. Sensible in that solutions were tried that were not too expensive. This is unlike the current BMW's where expense is ok.
The current Saabs are a little like Audis as far as expense. Saab has moved slightly upscale, but not a whole lot. There aren't any companies filling the old Saab niche. Saturn could be it if they tried sporty and had some emphasis on performance and safety. So could Subaru.
