When I bought my last Saab 10 years ago the salesman grumbled that the average Saab buyer kept the car for eight years and the industry average was less than half that.
I agree that the annual new car sales push and the idea that you should replace every few years lest the car falls apart are out of date notions that were prolly originally dreamed up by the weasels in marketing.
I know lots of folks who have fallen for the leasing scam even though they don't use their car for bidness, and are now stuck in a cycle of replacing every couple of years. And the weird thing is, whether they're leasing a Ford or a Mercedes, they can't put enough $$$ away for a down payment so they can break the cycle.
No wonder people look into the camera with a straight face and say they never knew how much their mortgage payment could balloon to.
Some never learned to count. Some never learned to read. Some can't do either, so they lease.
