First off, I am not an economist, or investment wizard, or licensed to give any sort of financial advice. I am a engineer concentrating on renovation of industrial sites and facilities. So much for the disclaimer.

In my more than a decade of working closely with Civil Engineering Firms which support land developers as well as industrial clients, I have noted activity which has, thus far, been 100% accurate indicating mid-range economic weakness and rebound. A simple one item observation, the quantity of RFP's (Requests For Proposals) received by these firms.

I was talking to reps from one of the firms today, and although they have not yet noticed an increase, they said their conversations with banks have revealed that banks are seeing a significant increase in consumer loan requests and approvals. Translation; money for qualified applicants is available again! If commercial loans requests also see an uptick, then the increase in RFP's will soon follow. Noticeable improvement in the economy will be ~6 months after that based on past observations.

A bit of a stretch I know, but I am tired of reading about doom and gloom only.
