and started worrying about the country as a whole. If things are this bad now, what's it going to be like when all of the job loses of the last 6 months start affecting the economy? Frontline had a good piece about the banking crisis of a few months ago and the people interviewed seemed to feel we were days away from a melt down that would have taken down banks worldwide! I've been through a few recessessions but nothing like this. In the early 80's my wife and I were financial "refugees" of a sort when we moved from MI to Florida (which was booming at the time). I guess the question is where is the new "Florida"? Europe seems to be in the same boat and Japan seems to be having some big problems. I can't imagine countries that depend on tourism (the Carribean, Central America, etc) would be good. I'm sure the oil rich, middle eastern countries are probably doing alright but I wouldn't want to live there. What about places like Austalia and New Zealand? You don't seem to hear much about them and I would think their economies are free-standing to some degree (they don't export much here anyway). So the theroetical question is, if things got bad enough, where would the smart money be in terms of a place to bail to.
