When I bought my 97 9000 as it came off lease the Saab dealer threw in a one year drivetrain warranty from Deutsche Bank's warranty program. Although the programs always say they pick up the cost of a repair, in reality they have a limit on each repair. So they allowed $365 on a $410 water pump replacement. The indie I go to said great about the warranty, pay me $410 and file a claim, I'm can't wait to get paid or discount to their pay scale.

My recent search for a used 9-5 indicates that a three year third party warranty from adealer was $1,895 with a $250 deductible; I don't think I've spent that much in repairs in ten years. Skip the warranty and put the cost of the warranty in the bank, you could fund a lot of repairs with it.

I get about 10 phone calls a week notifying me that my car warranty is about to expire and I can buy a new warranty, the fact that the cold call industry is hyping these things should be warning enough to stay away.
