I took my 2003 9-5 to the dealer for the 60k service today. I had several surprises:

The dealer is giving me the best deal, by far, for the full 60k service. For reasons I cannot explain, the indie mechanic I normally trust is much higher. I checked the services carefully and they are identical (yes, I am getting the full tensioner/pulleys with my T-belt. I have the v6).

The dealership has had a record month of 'new' car sales in March, mostly by selling 08’s at $10,000 off sticker. But the lot is full of 09’s too.

This dealership used to house used-car sales for all brands, including SAAB. The other used cars have been moved to a different facility within the dealer’s parent company and now the lot is SAAB-only -– and there seems to be plenty of stock of new and used on the lot. So, as other dealers in other parts of the country are closing their doors, this is now truly a stand-alone, SAAB-only dealership.

Last: I am not writing this from New England, upstate New York, Colorado, or any other traditional SAAB stronghold. This is western Michigan, the land of Chevy, Ford, and Dodge.

Who can really read the tea leaves on SAAB’s future? Regardless, I hope what I am experiencing are signs of an optimistic future for my favorite brand...
