Training is critical...... Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Want to Become a Saab Mechanic, Sarah, Sat, 4 Apr 2009 12:53:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Training in automotive technology is critical. Additionally, Saab's training programs are key to succeed as a Saab Tech. This should be followed by a few or more years experience in a dealership.
Surveys taken recently show a shortage of trained automotive technicians that is likely to grow. This will probably work in your favor.
First, you should research what automotive training and where is essential to getting started. I would look for schools that have some sort of credentials. Talk to Tech's you know.
Second, after you've finished an appropriate course of general automotive technician training, pursue a position in a dealership......assuming that Saab is still a viable direction.
Research alternatives: Doing this is essential in order to understand what your getting-started options are from QUALIFIED sources such as tech's you know, service manager at a dealership, the guidance counselor at the high school you attended, guidance personnel at local technical schools. Be aware that many of the technical schools provide placement assistance upon course completion.
Do not dismiss out of hand the possibility of enrolling in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard. I spent 4 years in the Air Force as an electronics technician many years ago; the training and experience was very good, as was the supervision/support while I was new to some of the equipment.
Hopefully, my thoughts might help,
