I towed the car to a local foreign car shop that is generally very good, but not Saab specialists. I think they can let me know if it a fatal error or something fixable. May take a day or two.
Strange problem, I was cruising along at 75mph and suddenly the car acted like water was being fed through the fuel system. Speed dropped 5mph, and then recovered slowly under cruise control. I turned the radio down and heard noise from the engine, so pulled over. There was a pretty serious knocking coming from the top of the engine, but it seemed to run pretty well, so I drove it 1/2mi to the next exit and parked it until I could figure something out. Thanks for being part of that!
The more immediate issue for our guys was to get hiking in Hocking Hills! Fortunately, one of our cars saw me on the road, stopped, and had enough room for my three and enough gear to get by. Unfortunately all of this delayed us for an hour or so, and we arrived at our campsite in a serious thunderstorm in the dark! My son and friends decided this was a lousy trip that was jinxed and we should not have come. Frankly, I was starting to feel the same way.
Fortunately, one of our guys got there early and had a rain fly set up, so we were able to set up our tents under the fly and move them to an open spot. This prevented filling up the inside of the tent 'bathtub' for the most part, and guys slept well. Also fortunately Saturday fooled the predictions and was a beautiful sunny day, so most of the tents got a chance to dry if not the insides. We had a great 6mi hike from Old Man to Ash with packs plus a few extra miles in to look at specific features later on. We had a delicious 'Low Country Boil', and the Scouts not working on that learned some knife/axe/saw handling. Gorgeous day!
Unfortunately it started raining again at 5am or so, meaning we packed wet. No problem....
My wife got some appreciation for this board. Thanks again Ron, Saabpilot, and all the others that contribute.
