seem to be in the same league as the Prius.
I rented a Prius in LA three weeks ago and it was a much better experience than the one I had in FL about 18 months back.
The steering wasn't as heavy and the car seemed better at freeway speeds ranging from stop and go to 80+ mph. I averaged 42 mpg driving and didn't try to optimize mileage at all. I drove it like I drive my 9K.
The big downside to me was the seats. Toyota still has absolutely no idea how to make good seats. The Prius seats had zero lumbar support, only back-forth and seatback tilt adjustments, and the bottom cushions gave my legs almost no support. I can't imagine doing a 2 hour trip in one.
However, for what it is, the Prius is a decent car. Put some good seats in it, a set of sway bars and better tires and it could be a fun, economical car. It's not meant to be a Saab.
But I keep thinking.... take a 1.5 liter turbo diesel, team it with an electric drivetrain from a Prius, put in good seats and a nice suspension and you'd have a great small to mid-size car.
