I seem to have caught a nasty swine flu-type adware/spyware on my aging laptop (5 years old). I do not care that much about the computer and will probably replace soon, but everything worked fine until a few weeks ago.
My symptoms are:
-Clicking links in Google brings me to various search sites, or the classic "your computer is infected" type of website
-The system will not recognize either or my iPods or any flash drives (but will recognize my external HD)
-If I plug an iPod in and open iTunes, my system will hang, and "services.exe" will run my CPU at almost 100%. If I stop the ipod service process, the services process goes away.
I have run my McAfee antivirus/antispyware, Spybot, and SuprAntiSpyware in both regular and safe modes, and AdAware in regular mode (won't run in safe mode). Google hasn't helped me much (plus clinking on links is a pain).
Any ideas before I go buy a nice MacBook? Just bought a convertible (9-3) last month and wanted to keep this old laptop around till the fall. I don't think it can handle a Windoze reinstall (will take forever).
Thanks for any ideas!
