Voltage loss is just as big in AC.
The reason why AC is said to reduct line losses, is that it is easy to use a transformer to step the voltage up to say 68,000 volts, with a correspondingly very low current. THAT is what is transmitted for a hundred miles with low-ish losses.
12v at 100A DC is 1200 watts. If it were easy to convert that into 1200v at 1 ampere, you would also be able to reduce the voltage loss using DC. Not real practical unless you're talking about a mile of extension cord.
