I don't ride a ton, but I do like my Shimano 105 setup on my Klein Quantum. I only have a couple thousand miles on that one, although I ride my mountain bike more than I do my road bike.)
The guy pictured below seems to like his brifters too. I think he gets pretty good ride time. His name is Lance, and he's pictured in my home town... just last weekend. As far as I could tell, Levi was riding the same setup.
Anyway, I like my aluminum frame for its responsiveness. I've ridden steel and carbon (the carbon frame didn't fit me very well, so I can't say I have a fair assessment of it), and I wouldn't hesitate to get another aluminum frame. If I had it to do over again, I'd look or a barely used bike. Plenty of people buy bikes thinking they'll ride a lot, then sell them.
Have a good time out there.
