White collar work can be mighty bizarre. My worst blunder (FWIW) was getting a new boss who was assigned to "manage" production of the company's Annual Report. I was the one who wrote the text sections, got the okays, supved inhouse design blablabla.

So finally Mr. Manager and I ended up in the NY agency that was handling production, and we were going over final proofs. Agency guy is referring questions to my boss, who doesn't know the answers, talks a while, asks me the Q, then repeats the answer I just gave him to the Agency Guy. It was late Friday afternoon and stuffy in the office, and eventually Agency Guy began to address the questions to me. I gave the answers back directly. Soon Agency Guy begain greeting my responses with, "Ah-ha! Another executive decision."

Eventually I noticed my new boss had turned bright pink. He wouldn't talk to me on the drive back from NY. Later he didn't bring me to meetings with him, preferring to take his admin who took down Qs, and had me provide written responses to Mr. New Boss. The money was good, though. (And Mr. Boss was eventually judged a waste of a good suit and shunted off until he took the hint.)

Motorcycle repair. Hmmmm. Definite possibilities.
