I have had Dyson DC24 for a little over a year. It replaced a 5 year old Hoover Windtunnel, the last in a long line of Hoover bag type uprights. For the record, I live in a two story townhouse with bamboo hardwood on the first floor and a 'frieze' carpet on the second floor. We have three long hair cats (two Maine Coons and a Ragdoll) and an Amazon parrot. All the animals seem to be constantly shedding.
I read all the reviews and really wondered if the Dyson could live up to the hype. I have been favorably impressed.
The Dyson has great suction and the ball design makes it easy to maneuver. The motorized brush bar works well to remove hair and dirt from the carpet. I switch the brush bar off when vacuuming on the hardwood to prevent scratching the hardwood finish.
Pros: The Dyson DC24 is lightweight (15-lbs), very maneuverable, and cleans both hardwood and carpet well. The washable HEPA filters work well and keep the dust from being redeposited.
Cons: The DC24 is smaller than other Dyson machines and may lack a little suction compared to the larger machines. The debris collection bin is small and must be emptied relatively often. As with all bagless vacuums, emptying the bin can be messy chore best accomplished in a large trash bin in the garage.
Bottom line, I would buy another with hesitation.
