I was driving my Viggen today, and I thought I was in neutral, though I was in first, and I released the clutch fast. I could certainly feel a shock but in a fraction of a second all was done. When I realized that I was in first, I quickly pressed in the clutch but the engine was off.
So, my question of the day is, how bad is it? I mean, obviously it's something to be avoided, but is the worst thing about this the shock that is sent through to the transmission? I know when I have it in first, and with the clutch depressed, the parts in the transmission aren't moving, so essentially upon releasing the clutch too fast, the clutch comes in contact with the flywheel and is asking the engine to spin it, but all too fast, and so the engine stalls. Does the transmission mount take in most of the shock?
Remember, I'm at a complete stop when this happened. Comments appreciated!
Sometimes....I remember the times when I drove my mazda protege and did not care nor pay particularly close attention to such events. Love of the Saab...
