I found my last set of Hakkas started losing grip on ice long before the tread depth was too low (+ they were still great in deep snow). One of the biggest pros for studs imho is the tire wear seems to be reduced. My parents got 10 winters on a set of studded Hakkas + although that's a bad thing to do for age related reasons, the grip was still outstanding in their final winter, and way better on ice than the brand new unstudded Hakkas on our car. I tested them back to back, and both cars were c900s... The difference on ice was as big as the difference between all seasons + snows. Amazing.
That said, some don't like the noise of studs on dry pavement, and fair enough... where we have no choice here, I'm keeping an eye on alternatives + I'm definitely interested in the long term results you get from the Yokos!
