and the c900 has a narrower back seat than the 9-5. What you need are new car seats:

Google "Sunshine Kids Radian".

We have a 9 month old + a 3 year old. The baby is rear facing in the middle. 3 year old is still in the radian forward facing, passenger side + is very happy with it. There is a full rear seat on the driver's side that comfortably fits an adult + has had a booster seat in it before as well (which easily fit in, as would a 3rd Radian).

The Radian is a direct competitor for the Britax Marathon, goes up to 65lbs (there is a version that goes up to 80lbs in the USA). We tried our friends' huge 5 year old in it + he fit just barely. But the thing that makes them better is they are narrow + sit lower + have a curved bottom that fits well in the seat of a Saab (so they fit tighter than Marathon as well). They are designed to work 3 across a normal car. They are also taller than a Marathon + can hold a bigger kid. Having done a 4 hour drive squashed between 2 Marathons in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, trust me, the Radians are worth every penny! We sold our Marathon + never looked back...

The 9-5 is an outstanding car. Fun, great fuel economy, lots of space, safe. We have lots of friends doing 3 kids across the back of various cars (Volvo, Jeep) + it works just fine...

And wrt minivans, Swede-Murphy said it best with a photo. See link!

good luck!

James...
