The 9-5 without snow tires is not fun in snowy conditions. With 4 good Hakkas (or the likes), however, the 9-5 will go anywhere - especially a 5-speed.
When I first got my current Saab (9-5 Aero sedan, 5-speed), I had just come from my trusty 9000T. I was afraid that the 9-5 wouldn't be as surefooted in the snow. I bought 4 new Hakkas with my CPO'd 9-5, so I thought I would give it a go. After a pretty good snowstorm,
I had to go on a job out in the boonies 2 weeks later: some paved ropads, and then gravel only. No probs at all. OTOH, the wife's 9-5 wagon with all-seasons is not so much fun when it REALLY snows...
HTH
Take the Subie.
