Nightline just posted a story on some 63 cases of uncontrolled accell since the recall. Mentioned was a family from Dallas area who had the car runaway from them, ending in their flipping upside down into a pond. Their mats were in the trunk. All dead. Another case where the problem was handled by a fellow who listened to an ABC program. They said to shift into neutral, brake, pull over to the side and stop, then shut off the engine. This fellow limped his car to the dealer, and was met by the service manager who confirmed electrical glitches. I think they basically replaced everything related to accel including electrical cables and ecu. They are still not convinced they have the real problem figured out.

The upshot of the piece is that the Toyota/Lexus accell problems continue and seem to be related to an electrical glitch. For those who own them, shift to neutral, pull to the side of the road, then shut off the engine.
