Sideways in a Jetta TDI and Acura RDX

Last Saturday I was shooting video and learning to instruct at a Tire Rack Street Survival class at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. As part of what I was shooting, I rode back seat to get in-car video and listen to the instructor while the students were doing the skid pad and figure-8 drills. The cars I rode in were a Jetta TDI wagon and an Acura RDX.
I have to say, these are really nice vehicles. The drills involve driving at 35-40 mph around a wet skid pad so the car is sliding. Then it is deliberately pitched sideways as the instructor yanks on the e-brake. The student steers to correct the skid and hold the car on course. These cars were well-composed under this duress. Each gave the young drivers a good platform on which to learn car control.
I expected the Jetta to be good, but the Acura was a real surprise, being taller and heavier. I was also in the RDX on the autocross exercise, with an instructor driving, and was impressed at how well it handled.
These are just rear seat observations, but these are excellent cars. Not being an instructor yet, I didn't get to drive them, but how good they felt to ride in out near the edge of control was an interesting experience.
