They are reduced quality, but I'm pretty sure they are still full size. They're physically huge.
NEF files are no bigger (resolution-wise) than the full-size (3MB) jpg file... just more info in them... You really should look into shooting in RAW/NEF with such a camera. It takes advantage of the technology you paid for in that-there sensor.
I'm surprised at the amount of noise in the images, even at ISO 1600 (that could be worsened by the JPG conversion process). As a tip, the f/stop could have been reduced (aperture opened a bit), keep the shutter speed high (good for long-lens use), and dropped the ISO for less noise.
Example: Image #2
Shutter speed: 1/640
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 1600
You could have shot it:
1/640
f/5.6 (minimum on that lens at that zoom range and +2 stops)
ISO: 400 (-2 stops)
Net exposure change = 0, but much less noise.
