All us 9K guys bemoan the fact that there's nothing like the 9K available today.
At least not on this side of the Atlantic.
I just put 300+ miles in England and Wales on a Vauxhall Insignia with a 2 liter turbo diesel, four doors and a hatch. It had great road manners, excellent seats, fine ride and handling (at least at reasonable speeds) and delivered well over 30 mpg in mixed driving that included a lot of stop and go on a clogged M6 motorway, lots of variable speed driving on narrow roads, stop and go in towns, a couple hundred roundabouts, and general backroads cruising. Highway-only at 70 mph delivered 40-45 mpg (U.S. gallons).
Despite the GM heritage, I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat based on my 300 miles. DK how it'd be long term, but this was a real nice car. As close to a 9K as I've been in.
If you get to the UK or Europe, try to rent one.
