I would imagine the output temperature is fixed at a certain degree. When you change the thermostat to a higher or lower temperature the unit simply cycles the compressor on and off accordingly to maintain that temperature in the room. I would say set the unit at the lowest temperature, get a temperature probe, and put it in the vents to see what the actual output temperature is. It may be close to what you want anyway. As far as modifying the unit to make it colder, you may do more harm then good. An air conditioner doesn't actually cool, it basically moves HEAT from one side (inside) to the other side (outside). Even if you manage to make the inside air colder, you will probably make the outside air much hotter. Eventually end up overheating the compressor, causing it to operate much hotter than designed, possibly causing a fire.
