We wanted the Pilot for years before ending up buying our Highlander. The primary reason for the change of heart was as idiosyncratic as the head rests! Yes, I kid you not. We sat in the Pilot EXL for half an hour at the dealer's showroom and couldn't find a comfortable position for our particular height and body shape/whatever. We ended up buying the Highlander because it had head rests similar to those on our Saab wagon.
Well, the Honda dealer's unwillingness to discount the Pilot EXL from MSRP, and the Highlander's better gas mileage and more robust AWD system also had something to do with it, although at the time we did not plan on keeping the car for more than 3-4yrs.
