Some of you may remember my rambling posts about 12-18 monthe or so ago, things have been relatively OK since that major repair fun project... it was fun actually.. but the fun continues.. gotta love it..
drove home from work today 50-60 ish 25 miles, got into town and a few stops and starts and corners and front end felt funny.. grinding bad when turning.. yep maybe another bad wheel bearing.. pull off wheel when get home and freakin axle stud broke off.. only thing holding wheel on was brake caliper.. ayuh.. just came back from round trip to Boston two days ago 80-85 MPH.. haven't hit anything that I remember?? yep, this has been a fun experience, I like wrenching on stuff but give me a break.. learned alot about how to fix this blasted thong in my two years of owning it..
lets reminisce.. in no particular order.. blown radiator hose one day shortly after owning it.. overheated bad.. headgasket was leaking prior to.. after about a year and getting progressively worse having to fill up antifreeeze on daily commute and loooking like my car had a steam powered motor with all steam out of tailpipe.. dug into headgasket.. it was fried... while in there timing chain was totally toast.. replaced chain sprockets and valve cover guides.. planed head while at it installed new valve seals and hand lapped in valves w/grinding compound.. a few lifters seemed to have lost their luster, but kept them all.. before the turbo blew badly, I had replaced the botton turbo hose that completely rotted and had a huge hole in it.. slapped in a used HO turbo from low mileage 2006 I think and it came with all teh goodies, pipe hoses and all to swap over, threw in a new water pump and used low miles alternator and power ster pump while had all apart for goood measure.. cleaned plugged up oil pump screen and cleaned all sludge yum, plastiguage all bearings while in there, worn but OK, yank balancing chain was completely and utterly stretched real noisy motor... that was real fun got chain stuck in motor after cutting it and my lead wire to hold it in place fell off.. argh.. many beers later and working crank back and forth ever so gently and poking at it with stiff wire.. I got it out and without TNT or kicking the crap out of something.. what a terrific improvement yanking that useless thing out, motor purrs and is quiete and no vibration I can feel at all.. ok, lets think some more.. oy yea forget my first welcome to owning a 9-5 experience, two toasted screaching wheel bearings "out of the blue" like four weeks after I got it, all new motor mounts... were completely toasted ripped in two and motor was boogieing all over the place.. all new vacuum lines all were totally deteriorated, all new belt pulleys.. one broke and others toasted,.. muffler.. yep some repairs/maintenance is expected, but... new used blower motor a year ago.. fried.. new after market one slapped in last week.. sweet.. driver door window rollers exploded, window fell into door.. I kid you not, immediately after repairing that window a few weeks later and back together, roll all windows up and down for fun ?? and freakin passenger side rollers expolde, windows falls into door... ayuh.. same freakin day.. that was a year ago, stayed broke but up sealed tight for a year.. just replaced rollers last week and freakin rollers popped off three times now and yet to yank apart again to see WTF is up.. now no clue why keeps popping off.. got aftermarket rollers, but driver door same rollers and been fine and used plenty.. sigh.. zimmerman rotors and akebone pads all around a week ago.. sweet feeling brakes.. replaced both sway links while doing brakes.. one toast other seemeds OK for now, but changed anyway, what a difference clunk is gone.... hmmm BAD SID haven't had repaired yet... intermittent alarm siren BLASTING when it wanted to either when a full crowd is around or 3 am.. no way to silence, finally pulled #15 fuse, but was getting hot and wantred AC, so last week yanked it and contemplating having it rebuilt or keep it out.. Code 8 blend door still not tackled.. hot air in summer driver side, passenger cool, winter cold air driver side passenger hot.. ayuh agin, love it.. probably 6 burnt front lights in two years... just for fun replaced headlight lenses with E-Codes.. nice difference.. hmm seat heaters dont work, no biggie.. ok what else.. oh yea cant forget my tranny locked up one day right as i came to a stop at a stoplight.. big clunk then locked compleetely, no forward, no reverse, locked.. towed away, had it torn apart was toast gears let go inside.. new used $1500 later tranny done deal...
OK, I know i missed more than a few things... but by now tou are either bored with my story and clicked to one that had merit, are laughing your ass off, or saying to yourself.. that's nothing, I can match that list repair for repair and toss in a few new ones!!!
And just just for the record, I have 1999 9-5 SE 2,3 auto.. now has 196,000 miles and I still love the freakin ride.. I bet i get another 30,000 plus out of it after a new front axle and perhaps just a few more fun repairs.. I may even consider another 9-5 newer more luxury year some day, but not sure when they either improved greatly, if there is such a thing??.. or when they turned into plain jane GM assembly line junk??
Call me freakin crazy, but still a sweet fun comfortable luxury car and love it! ride..!!
