I'm also 6'2" and my daily driver is a Saab 9K, with a 9-5 and 9-3 as alternates. I didn't have any ingress/egress issues with the Fusion at all. Door opens wide and the car is normal height.
I liked the Fusion, even though I had the vanilla version with a 4-cyl engine. It's no Saab, but seems to be a pretty nice car. Ride is very smooth, but softer than I like. Seats are only OK, but do have adjustable lumbar support which definitely helped. I didn't have to drive it very far, so the long-road comfort is TBD. Steering is kinda numb, but there's enough effort so you know you are steering and it felt OK. It had pretty good roll stiffness, and with a set of aggressive tires would probably be a lot of fun on a back road. Would be too soft, though, for real fun.
The dash layout is not all that great, and the instrument panel is just plain fugly. Overall fit and finish is nice. Decent quality materials, although I didn't like the seat fabric. Probably durable, just not attractive.
But the rear seats go down and the car holds a lot of stuff.
I haven't driven an Escape in a few years, so can't comment on them.
