The backpressure of the turbine does take power away from the engine. The boost pressure developed by the compressor is a fraction (maybe 1/3) of the back-pressure. But it works out for the better because the thermodynamic cycle is improved somewhat. But the biggest improvement is power because the mass flow rate of compressed air through the engine can be substantially larger than what you'd get without boost.
