OT: Anyone using a "My Ditto" back-up/NAS server? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I need a means to provide back-up for my home PC so when I saw an article on this device in the Financial Times I was intrigued. They absolutely gushed over it and all other reviews I found on-line are just as complimentary.
The device is a remote hard drive that plugs into your home router rather than the PC. You back-up all data to this device like a remote hard-drive, but since it is connected to the router it is actually a Network Accessible Storage device (NAS). With the security dongels provided you can access your stored data from any internet connected PC anywhere in the world, all data is encrypted during transmission! Data is stored in the device and not "in the cloud".
Sounds almost too good to be true. And who is Dane Electo, the manufacturer? Are they the same company that makes Wah-Wah pedals for electric guitars?
Is this as good as it sounds? The only stated draw back was data speed, but since I won't be storing/transmititng video or audio files the data speed should be no issue to me.
