Re: Do you think that Spyker / Saab will make it? Posted by NCCaniac [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Do you think that Spyker / Saab will make it?, Two_9-3s, Wed, 3 Nov 2010 10:41:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It is not too surprising that Saab ad to revise its sales figures considering they were essentially restarting a company that was in the process of being shut down back in January (i.e., no cars being manufactured, parts suppliers moving on to other things or even going out of business themselves, dealers with little to no inventory, and the public thinking Saab was gone).
They are just now reloading the pipleline to get product to dealers and having to convince customers that Saab has products to sell again. That is why the deal for Spyker to purchase Saab included loans, other funding and write-down of debts to help fund the business plan until they can produce and sell enough cars to be profitable again. They were not predicting to make a profit until 2012 as it was.
So, would it be good if sales were picking up quicker? Sure. But now that the dealers are getting stock, the 9-5 will be available with a turbo 4 engine at a lower price than the Aero, the 9-4X and 9-5 sport combi coming in 2011, plus the 9-3 and 9-3X to sell, sales should improve going forward.
But, restarting a shut down company does mean things are not completely solid and guaranteed until Saab can hit their break-even target of around 85,000 car sales per year. The real key will be the success of the new 9-3 in 2012. That will be the make or break model.
Will Saab make it? I hope so, I think so....the business plan seems reasonable...but lots of issues can impact that. (Even large car companies are not immune to surviving today...GM and Chrysler would have gone under without the bailouts.)
Probably the biggest issue now is to get existing and previous Saab owners to look a the brand again and then getting a few new customers to also compare Saab's products and test drive them.
