After trying quite a few different types of tires over the years, I found General Altimax HP tires to be well suited for (my) 9-5: excellent grip (especially in rain), super quiet ride, and smooth riding for a highway cruiser.

I use Bridgestone Blizzark for snow tires in winter, from mid-December to early March. They are fabulous in the snow . . . although from what I hear, melt away quite quickly when it's warm out. I have driven two winters with them, with a combined 3000 miles or so total (less than 3 months each year, as noted). The tires still look like new. Now that my Altimax all-season tires are down to about 6/32" after two years (12k miles or so total), I may have to use the snow tires for longer than 3 months this year. We shall see how they hold up with slightly warmer than dead-of-winter months.

I will be trying out Hankook Optimo 727 on the convertible this winter . . . already delivered but haven't mounted yet. They are reputed to have fabulous snow performance for all-season tires, and very quiet. I ordered them in the 205/65-15 size in order to get the 12/32" tread depth, which look and feel like snow tires and off-road tires. LOL. Will have to wait and find out if Hankook has really made a tire that is quiet, smooth, excellent in snow and long wearing! We shall see.
