So it's really how much of a risk taker he wants to be. If the car isn't essential--as in it getting him to work, the expense could be deferred. If it's driven daily, then yeah, get a new batt.
6 years is old, but I had a Die Hard in my '84 C900 go ten years. Musta had a real good one!
Batteries generally give you some warning, but the one in my wife's 9-5 just flat died a month or so back. It had been a tad longer cranking than usual a few days before, but that's it. At least it died in the driveway!
