by that logic, because then the car would stay in the garage when there is any snow on the ground at all.
SUV's are also safer than cars because the higher noise at speed in an SUV would prevent the driver from driving too fast. LOL.
Back here in real life, most roads are ploughed by shoving snow to the side of the road, where the usual parking spaces are. The most difficult part of driving is not in driving on the road, but in getting in and out of parking spaces. That's where AWD (particularly with high ground clearance) has significant advantage. Once the car is out of parking space and on the road, it's the nut behind the wheel that is the most important safety equipment. It's silly to drive fast on snow covered road just because one believes his snow tires can stop him fast. They still take much longer distance than summer tires on dry roads do! A decent set of all-season touring tires with good snow ratings can stop the car at shorter distance than 90% of the cars on the road. A shorter stopping distance than that may well result in being rear-ended by the car following behind with crappier tires.
