8 yr old machine has nothing but bugs and problems, online videos cause crashing and re-starts,blue screens of death, various other little problems etc. I replaced the power supply, memory, video card, with no improvement, then 3 days of diagnostic at a local PC repair shop. They were about to replace the processor but I said enufs enuff and will soon purchase a new machine. My question is this: considering what ive read online about swapping your files and photos etc over from the old to the new, it could be a messy process? I have a generally good understanding of computers but very very bad luck with them, including my machine at work which ive never touched other than the keyboard. Wierd things seem to happen, for no reason. Windows XP on the old, the new will most likely have Windows 7 home premium. Please don't recommend MAC as I want the gaming option of the PC. Also too expensive. My budget is around 1000. Any tips or heads-ups before I try this? The online boards have a lot of very bad things to say about transferring to a new machine, I also don't want to bring any bugs over if they are lurking in there somewhere. Yes the old machine runs Trend Micro security full time and Spybot manual scans. Thank you all for reading and replying.
